MKAM (Mark Keppel All Male) is a high school hip hop dance team sanctioned by Mark Keppel High School (Alhambra, California). All dancers on the team must also be current, incoming, or transfer students who will be attending Mark Keppel High School. Students may also be on independent study through Alhambra Unified School District. Auditions are held 1-2 times per year (typically both in April and August). Students who successfully make it through auditions will be enrolled in either Dance Company or Honors Dance Company in the Fall as part of their regular academic schedule. Students receive credit towards satisfying their P.E. requirement and/or A-G “F” fine art credit for UC/CSU. Additionally, Honors Dance Company students also receive an additional GPA point on their academic transcript (Placement in honors is dependent on performance at auditions).
AUDITIONS FOR STUDENTS TRANSFERRING TO MKHS (TO JOIN MKAM)
Dancers wishing to transfer to Mark Keppel High School to be a part of MKAM must submit video auditions by email or through instagram (@mkhsdance). Transfer students from other school zones and districts outside of AUSD must be entering grades 10,11, or 12 in the Fall semester. Transfer students who successfully earn spots on MKAM will be notified within 2 weeks of submitting their audition video (see attached flyer for submission instructions). Such candidates will be enrolled in Honors Dance Company for their Fall academic schedule. It is recommended that accepted transfer students initiate the interdistrict permit application in their home school district as soon as they are notified of acceptance into our Honors Dance Company program. Our experience is that most school districts who do not offer a weighted “A-G” Honors dance course will generally approve the permit request. However, Mark Keppel High School will not accept any students who are not successfully admitted into MKAM through the video audition process. All video auditions are reviewed by the MKHS Dance Arts Department within 2 weeks of submission.
VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSION DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2019
AUDITIONS FOR CURRENT MKHS STUDENTS & INCOMING 9TH GRADERS
Students currently enrolled at MKHS or who are current 8th graders at an MKHS feeder elementary school must attend our required audition workshop in either Spring or Fall (You are not allowed to submit video auditions). Applicants will learn a hip hop routine, in addition to performing a hip hop freestyle dance for our panel of judges. All applicants are notified of their results the following week. Student academic schedules will be adjusted as needed so that you can receive academic credit.
